Our Story
About El Colibrí
At El Colibrí, the fact that you can see us, talk to us, and know where your money goes matters. We're a Mexico City family on Penn Avenue in Pittsburgh's Bloomfield neighborhood, and every taco, quesabirria, and handmade huarache that leaves our kitchen carries the authentic flavors we grew up with. Our birria is slow-cooked with chiles, spices, and herbs the way it's done in Jalisco but with our own twist, and our oyster mushroom birria brings that same depth of flavor to a fully vegan option that has people coming back who never thought a plant-based taco could hit this hard. Our entire menu is gluten-free, our vegan options are made with the same care as everything else, and our aguas frescas are blended fresh with real fruit every day. As Andrés G. shared, "This is my favorite taquería in Pittsburgh. In this culinary desert, El Colibrí is the closest I can get to my neighborhood taqueria." We started at farmers markets and built a following one taco at a time before opening our storefront, and the response from Pittsburgh has been everything we hoped for. From our handmade gorditas and sopes to our elote and chilaquiles, every item reflects the recipes and the pride we bring from home. We show up every day because this is more than a job... it's our community. We're grateful to serve the Pittsburgh community.
